ABOUT ME

Hi! I'm Gemma, a Freelance Writer from Lincolnshire living in Lincoln (United Kingdom) - although most people call me Gem. I graduated from Lancaster University in 2009 with a First Class BA (Hons) English Language degree and have an interdisciplinary career background, recently working as a Freelance Writer in games media. I've been a fan of video games ever since picking up a SNES/Nintendo 64 controller and Commodore 64 keyboard back in the '90s. Today, I enjoy playing all kinds of genres but am most fond of action-adventure, life/farm sim, and RPG games.
Following graduation, I worked in administrator and administrative assistant roles for approximately 10 years across UK universities and colleges, including one role in B2B telesales. These included rols at the University of Lincoln, Bishop Grosseteste University, University of Warwick, Lincoln College, and Boston College.
After successfully completing a digital skills bootcamp covering game development, cyber security, and more, I kickstarted my career change as a Contributor at Game Rant, where I soon progressed to Interview Reporter and Senior Writer. This included interviewing game developers and other industry professionals. During this time, I also gained experience writing for Gfinity Esports. More recently, I've written hints-based guides at nicegamehints.com and covered game guides at gametips.gg.
While I'm a big fan of video games, I'm also open to exploring other niches, with my other interests and areas of expertise including travel, art, and pets (I also taught English abroad at university, am a traditional artist, and have two pet budgies! I'm also currently volunteering as a Concept Artist on 'Don't Be Seen,' a video game currently in development at Toasted Games).
Thanks for reading about my career change journey so far - it would be great to connect!
