About Me

Hi, I'm Gem! I'm a traditional artist from Lincoln in Lincolnshire in the UK, currently working as a writer in the games industry and volunteering as a Concept Artist at Toasted Studio (a games studio working on 'Don't Be Seen'). I've been fond of art and storytelling all of my life, with English and Art being my best and favourite subjects at school and beyond (GCSE Fine Art Grade A* and AS Level Art and Design Grade A). I began selling my art and offering commissions in 2018 before joining the games industry in 2022, when I took a break from painting for a few years to focus on my career change from administration. I later returned to art, creating new work from 2025 till today!
I'm mainly a watercolour artist painting wildlife and animals, but also enjoy using acrylics, gouache, water-based oil paints (to reduce environmental impact), and mixed media techniques in my work, like finerliner ink and coloured pencils. I'm endlessly inspired by mindful moments spent in nature (including via my own nature photography), and believe in the power of art to support wellbeing, including bringing a bit of Mother Nature indoors. I also enjoy creating art that strikes a balance between abstract and realism, inspired by the natural world and virtual spaces like gaming. What really is reality, after all?
I love to spend time in nature and with animals, so my art creations are inspired by the wonders of the natural world that I photograph around the city of Lincoln and beyond. A proud geek at heart, I am also really inspired by fantasy worlds in science fiction, movies, gaming, and popular culture, and am fascinated by connections to history, myth, lore, and legend. Afterall, Lincoln has much to explore in local history and heritage, from the Lincoln Imp and beyond.
In addition to expanding my wildlife art practice, I am currently seeking to expand my art practice to include art inspired by fantasy and virtual spaces. While traditional art is my main passion, as a Concept Artist, I am also learning digital art using software like Procreate and look forward to seeing how this might shape my practice in my future creations – watch this space! It is also a practice that is developing my capability for imagination in my work, as well as painting from life or from personal reference photos.

Celebrating and Protecting Our Connections with Wildlife and Nature...

My art focuses on bringing nature and fantasy escapism indoors to your home through unique, traditional creations of wildlife, animals, and more to help enrich your home space. I use eco-friendly mediums and materials as much as possible in my artwork, its presentation, and packaging in order to contribute to the ever-growing importance of sustainability. I think it is so important to give back to nature for the joy and inspiration that it gives me and to help the environment as much as possible when creating art and home décor.
I am also fascinated by the connections between people, wildlife, and pets and I think this is something to be celebrated. I especially enjoy painting bird art and have two pet budgies, so you may notice different types of birds often appear in my work.

Art Captured in Mindful Moments...

Through my art, I also aim to spread awareness of the positive health benefits of spending time in nature through my mindful art process. Some of my designs have been featured in the Mind charity Autumn Newsletters for members and more recently, in the Mind 2020-21 and 2021-2022 calendars. I am proud to have supported the work that Mind do in this way.
I love to spend time in nature taking wildlife photographs and I often use these as inspiration to create beautiful and unique pieces of art for calm, cozy, or unique home décor.
